I never submitted any travel image of mine to participate in a photo contest. At least, I don’t remember I did. Last week, anyway, I was surfing through Footprint Travel guides’ website and reading about the “Travel Photo of the week” contest, I decided to give a try also because I was handling a photograph took a couple of years ago while in Myanmar.
A sat down buddhist monk on the summit of an ancient temple in Bagan, the gentle light of sunset behind and a beautiful green landscape as scenic background. Serendipity at its best, I must say! Thought it was another picture of usual buddhist monks you see in any photo contest, more and less, but the Coubertin’s words prevailed on my skepticism and so I sent my photo which, I realized only in that same moment, haven’t send to Alamy for sale previously. Today, with my great surprise, an email from Footprint travel guides announced the burmese monk was selected as winning image of the week. I won a copy of their Travel Photography book. I wonder if among tips given they suggest not to take the usual picture of buddhist monks while you are traveling in Southeast Asia!
